cosplay Literally "Costume Play." Dressing up and pretending to be a fictional character (usually a sci-fi, comic book, or anime character). I would like to stress the word play! No one participating in Cosplay. No one viewing Cosplay from the outside. Should be taking it seriously to want to injure or endanger others. Although many Cosplayers are passionate about their role. From the costume preparation to the convention particpation. The whole principal is to have fun and enjoy the PLAY while dressed as your favorite character. |
The Cosplay Wiki says "The term cosplay represents a contraction of the English words "costume play". The term was coined by Nov Takahashi of the Japanese studio Studio Hard while attending the 1984 Los Angeles Science Fiction Worldcon. He was impressed by the hall and the costumed fans and reported on both in Japanese science fiction magazines. Costume becomes kosu (コス), and play becomes pure (プレ).
